In the assignment, my class was instructed to create a 1-minute audio visual work of art only using videos, images, and sounds from the Detroit Historical Society’s achieve.

In this piece, I used clips that included people from the Detroit Historical Society Video Archive. Inspired by the soul and heart that can be found in communities, I crafted this piece around the concept that each of our lives is intertwined with each other. Additionally, I wanted to showcase that the more things change, the more they stay the same and that there is an inherent heart to people. I manipulated the color, the scale, the crop, the rotation, and the twirl of the clips and layered them in a way to create a new canvas. By weaving the clips and audio together, there is an eeriness about how the material is presented, but also a familiarity with the heart of the piece.
